“Sonuncu” (“The last one”) is a short film about World War II veteran, who is the last alive person in the world. Lonely old man is lost in time, in space … He has been living in his own world for a long time, talking with a fridge, and hiding the past in it…
“The idea itself is a fantasy but it is actually based on a true story which happened to my Grandfather. He turned 92 years old last year. My grandfather is a veteran of The Great Patriotic War, who went through the whole war, was injured, received medals, so partly the story is based on his life. The idea came a while ago. I wrote it down and left it alone. I have always thought of this idea as a short film, but it stayed in my head for some time. There are actually two ideas presented in the film. The first one is the story of an old man and his everyday routine, which is based on my grandfather’s life. The other one was born when I thought how would it be when the only one, the last veteran will stay alive in the world. Who is he? What does he feel? How does he live? When both of these stories combined in my head and formed a com- plete picture the idea for the film was born. I met my producer Maria Ivanova at the same time. I told her about my idea for this film and she loved it.”
