A girl discovers that she can hear the thoughts of the people around her, but by exploring her new talent she soon attracts the attention of a mysterious, intimidating stranger who seems to know what she is doing and intends to put a stop to it.
“I happened to be thinking about what if you could hear people’s thoughts? Then the idea of someone having a feedback noise if you’re listening to someone’s thoughts, what if someone’s thoughts weren’t thoughts at all, what if they’re just a terrifying feedback, or void, or whatever it is. And then that image of the person whose thoughts you’re listening to turning around and looking at you; that was the starting point.”
